As we all understand, when we speak of death we speak of something painful, a transformation, a burial. Yet, how beautiful the fruit of this death is! God desires for all of His followers to die to themselves and He is more than capable of helping us do so as long as we sincerely desire to follow Him. Freedom starts at the end of ourselves because that is where God can finally take over. He wants to give us rest from the heavy burden of the self. I have grown to love Jesus’ beautiful words that say, Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV). He wants us all to come to Him and to learn from Him. We are destined to experience the unspeakable rest of the gentleness of true humility. This is why we need to die so that Christ can live through us!
