And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)
When I think of the book of Hebrews, this chapter stands out to me. This entire book of the Bible revolves around faith because without faith it is impossible to please God. Everything Jesus promises He is, we can only receive by faith in His claims. Every day, we must come before God with fresh faith- fully believing that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. Every time you pray, He hears. When you cry, He counts your tears.
These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. Hebrews 11:13 (ESV)
Noah, Moses, and the patriarchs had faith in God- even though they were humans like us. Though God was true to His promises during their lifetime and they saw them come to fulfilment before their very eyes, this verse tells us that they have not received the things promised. How could that be? You see, the ultimate reward for our faith and theirs is Christ. We are all strangers and exiles on the earth. Our homeland is heaven and we will never feel at home in this broken world. Our kingdom is not here and we groan often because this world is completely upside down. Yet, we know where we are going. We find unspeakable joy in knowing that we will one day be married to Christ in heaven! No shadow will steal our joy. Even so, we see glimpses of God’s beautiful kingdom as we do His will here on earth.
Who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Hebrews 11:33 (ESV)
God is worthy of our absolute trust! We can take Him at His very Word. He never disappoints, never lies, never works against us- even when we cannot understand His ways. What impossibility are you against today? Through faith in Christ, you can be empowered to go forward, to receive justice, to obtain promises, and to stop the mouth of any lion that is roaring in your life. Stand firm in your faith in God and He will help you to fulfill your destiny!
