The God that relents.

“Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, ‘This is what the Lord God of your ancestor David says: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Look, I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the Lord’s temple.'” 2 Kings 20:5
This is a story in the Bible that has always amazed me. God sent the prophet Isaiah to Hezekiah to let him know that His sickness would soon result in his death. Even though God’s decision seemed final, Hezekiah cried out to God for Him to turn back from His decision. As I read this, my memory takes me back to 5 years ago, during a time of intense trial in my life where it seemed that God was about to take from me someone I couldn’t bear to lose. I felt so powerless and it all seemed lost but I somehow found one last bit of strength to cry out to God so He would do the impossible. Little did I know then that my distressed cry would cause God to relent. My life changed dramatically because of it. One honest cry of desperation can stop God in His tracks. He hears our prayers and sees our tears.
