A moment of stillness (24).

When suffering is real.

Why is light given to one burdened with grief, and life to those whose existence is bitter, Job 3:20

This is not a verse you would expect from a devotional but is a verse that can serve as a powerful reminder that you are not alone. Job was a man of great integrity and he suffered more than most people. God allowed tremendous grief in Job’s life in order to show a profound truth: we should serve God not because of what He does for us but because of who He is. The book of Job also shows us that we all have moments of despair- no matter who we are. We shouldn’t let our pain and doubt to keep us from God. When life is full of grief and bitterness, God is at work. He never stopped working and nothing has escaped his control. There is always a purpose for the pain. We often feel that we failed God when we despair but He is not surprised by our weakness. He knows our frailty. He is after refining us through the flames. Trust the gentle hand of God to shape you in the midst of your tragedy.
